		<description>Thanks for this succinct look ahead. While Taiwan&#039;s democracy looks fragile, it may be less malable than Beijing thinks. Also, Ma looks much too cozy with China for friends of democracy, but Chinese critics say he is duplicitous and betraying his commitments to unification with his &quot;go slow&quot; approach. My guess would be that how Ma and his party respond to the contrary pressures from within and without will have as much bearing on Taiwan&#039;s future course as anything Beijing and Washington are likely to do. 
Meanwhile, where&#039;s the red dot for Taiwan&#039;s capital? Non-recognition doesn&#039;t mean non-existence!</description>
